Engraving: Pricing Examples
Welcome to the DOC'S GUN AND KNIFE pricing estimate page.
Unless you are a veteran of commissioning engraving for your firearms or knives it can be confusing. So let me break down some basics — then I’ll show you some examples of pricing based on the work. Here’s the quick summary: LETTERING: $10-12/letter on stainless steel or other “clean” metal finish $50 minimumKNIFE ENGRAVING: typically $250-$2500 I can only engrave the bolsters or scales/handles. Not the blade itself.HANDGUN ENGRAVING: typically $500-$5000 or more
RIFLE ENGRAVING: Can start at $500 and go to $5000 or more
It depending on how crazy you want to go with scrollwork and finish detail. For stainless guns, custom engraving can start at $500 and go up from there Unless you can send the gun already de-blued and broken down --
there will be additional fees.
There are additional costs and time associated with re-bluing a handgun or rifle.
We can communicate via Text or FB Messenger to ensure that we achieve a design that is within your budget.
Simple lettering costs $10-12 per letter -- typically SCRIPT or ROMAN style. Monograms can vary wildly in pricing, depending on the complexity of the design. I am happy to work with you to define a quote -- and to come up with something that keeps you inside of your budget.$50 minimum
These two cost $50 each
This BUCK NOBLEMAN -- EXTREMELY Tough Steel!!! Escalated the price point due to the steel involved.PRICE = $2300
Kershaws can be tricky to engrave due thinning of the scales (to 0.015") to make room for the spring assist. This did not have the finish detail I would have liked... but kept it under the client's budget.Price $500
SINGLE ACTION .45 ENGRAVINGSINGLE ACTION SIX-SHOOTERS ARE AMONG THE MOST ENGRAVEABLE GUNS EVER MADE!! Pricing, of course, varies with the percentage of engraving coverage on the revolver. There are additional fees, as these have to be broken down completely to base components. If the gun is to be BLUED at the end -- that also adds additional time, and some of the engraving details can be lost to the viewer's eye. The Uberti here has a FRENCH GREY FINISH. It has about 60% coverage and client cost was $5000.
GUN ENGRAVING: typically $350-$4000 gun engraving can be highly variable in cost -- depending on a myriad of factors.STAINLESS guns are the least expensive to get engravedBLUED guns -- that are de-blued, then treated with a FRENCH GREYcan look great! And cost much less than re-blueing (see the six-gun to the left on this page).Unless you can send the gun already de-blued and broken down -- there will be additional fees for disassembly and reassembly. A notable exception for gunsmithing fees are semi-auto slides which are easily removed.
